With the immersion of clay idol of Devi Durga in the water of Dayang River 5 KM from Haflong , the five-day long ‘Sharadiya Utsav’ throughout the Dima Hasao district concluded with traditional fervors and gaiety on Monday.
The agonizing financial crisis due to non-payment of salaries to both the council and state employees for the months together failed to dampen the Puja spirit of the people of Dima Hasao district. The Puja committees however curtailed the budget in comparison to the earlier years keeping in view of the people’s financial hardships.
Today, from early morning, hundreds of devotees mostly the women folk thronged at the various pandals/mandaps to offer sweets ‘tel-sindur’(Oil and vermilion) to Devi and to bid farewell to Goddess Durga. Before immersion of the Idol, all the Puja committees took out a procession from the respective pandals marched through the Haflong town converged at Dayang River in a disciplined way. People were seen waiting on the roadside to honour Devi.
