Joint Peace Committee between Assam-Nagaland is formed at Geleky


A 15-members joint peace committee between the residents of boder areas of Assam and Nagaland was formed at a public meeting held at Hingibeel Bazar on September 24. The people and representatives of the border areas of Geleky, under Nazira Sub-Division of Sivasagar district and the Tamlu Sub-Division of Lungleng district of Nagaland were present in the meeting. The MLA of Tamlu Legislative Constituency and Parliamentary Secretary of Transport and Communication, Taku Phom was present in this meeting. Decision was taken to maintain peace and harmony among the people of both the states and to solve their problems amicably in conducive atmosphere. Besides everybody stressed to revive the age old tradition of brotherhood among the people of the neighbouring states.

A cultural show of All Assam Mech-Kochari National Council, of Assam will be held at public play ground of Haripora-Kochari Gaon of Sivasagar district under Hahsora Mauza from February 22. In this event the culture, traditional religious customs, food, discussion, dresses will be exhibited. An open session is being organised in this special occasion.

A historical museum "From Yunan to Patkai" in memory of Chow Lung-Sukapha, founder of Ahom kingdom was inaugurated at Charaidew by fomer DoNer minister B.K. Handique. In Charaidew is the graveyard place of Ahom kings where their mausoleums are lying. The museum was contructed under the area development fund of Bijoy Krishna Handique, former Doner minister and member from Jorhat parliamentary constituency. In this inaugural function, along with Handique, Dr. Hemprava Saikia, Debobrata Saikia, MLA Nazira, Sarat Saikia, MLA, Mahmora and many distinguished persons were present.
Ramdhenu Drama Troup of Hahsora staged the historical drama, “Bagh Hazarika” at Nazira Natya Mandir on February 11. The drama which is written by Jitu Jyoti Gayan, a young dramatist of 30 years of age, directed by Anup Borpatra Gohain, Jeto Bon Boruah and Jhahnobi Saikia. To develop trade and economic ties with the neighbouring Myanmar, the Indian government will start bus services from Imphal to Mandalaya, Myanmar. A high level team of union surface transport ministry, lead by Joint secretary, will arrive at Imphal on February 21 for this puspose. Already discussions are going on between the Indo-Myanmar border trade Union and Republic Myanmar Border trade chamber and commerce for this service. First the service will run from Imphal and then from Guwahati. The Visa will be first issued from Imphal and then Guwahati.

Nazira district and Namti regional Koch Rajbonshi Sonmiloni jointly observed the 502nd birthday of Chilarai at Udaipur M.E. School, Namti on February 7. The day long programme was started with flag hosting and reminiscence by the Nazira District President, Lalit Dutta. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested ONGC’s civil wing General Manager P K Bora charging him with taking bribe from a contractor in his office. Before that an eleven-member CBI team from Guwahati had arrived in Sivasagar and probed the bribery allegations leveled by a contractor, Chanchal Konwar. Bora allegedly had demanded bribe for his bills to be passed for work done. The CBI team headed by DSP Zamang recovered cash 80,000 from the possession of Bora.
