Floods bring brimful misery to Lakhimpur, Dhemaji

Floodwaters again wreak havoc in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts inundating over 60 villages even as the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still rising above the danger mark.

More and more areas in the two districts have come under the flood waters with heavy rains lashing Arunachal Pradesh and its adjoining areas since Saturday. The Nowboicha revenue circle remains a the worst-hit where thousands of people have been rendered homeless besides damaging crops worth lakhs of rupees. These areas include Rohali, Pandhowa North, Pandhowa South and Pandhowa East villages were inundated by the Singra river. Naoboisa MLA Sanjoyraj Subba on Sunday visited the marooned people and assured them of adequate relief materials. The district administrations claimed to have provided essential commodities to the flood victims of Nowboicha circle but the affected people call it quite inadequate.Dhemaji district was hit by a third wave of floods for the last 5 days following heavy rains in the adjoining areas forcing the water level of Simen river to above the danger level. Jonai sub division remains the worst-hit area. Erosion by the river further has compounded the problem of the villagers of Lakhimpuria, Dadhara, Rangpuria, Siman and SC Village.
