Amid ULFA diktat Assam celebrates I-Day
Braving militant diktat, Assam on Sunday observed 64th Independence amid tight security throughout the state. Acting chief minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman led the state in hoisting the national tricolour and taking salute of the army, police and para military forces at the Latasheel Playground in the morning.
In his speech, Dr Barman stressed peace to ensure all round development in the state. He claimed that the state is progressing on all front.
Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma unfurled the national tricolour in Amingaon in the outskirt of the city who claimed that the state was progressing on all fields.
Dibrugarh also observed 64th Independence Day as power and industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi unfurled the national tricolour while public health engineering minister Rihon Daimary unfurled the national tricolour in Tezpur on Sunday morning at Nehru Maidan.
Notably, six banned insurgent outfits called for general strike from Saturday midnight and urged the people not to join the celebration. But only to be defied.

Its nice to read that the people are defying bandh culture - no matter for which reason it is called for. Bandh doesn't help the cause but it deteriorates the matter further.
Let these ministers and officers celebrate their special day without security.
