NH 37 at Raha in dilapidated state, authority sleeping, authority sleeping

The NH-37 passing through Raha town is in a dilapted condition since a long time. The vehicles including all kinds ply daily through Raha to the other places of the state suffering a lot of inconvenience due to the dilapidated condition of the highway at Raha. The widening pathholes have become a virtual death traps for the commuters of different vehicles and pedestrians. The buses need more than one hour to reach Nagaon from Raha instead of the normal time thirty minutes.

Talking to this correspondent, the people of the locality showed a strong resentment towards the National Highway authority for not showing any interest to improve the present state of the highway. The heavy vehicles of Madhukon construction company, engaged in the four-lane Expresss highway at Raha ,are also responsible for making the road more vulnerable , the locals alleged. It is observed, when it rains ,the highway turns into a pond filled with water and mud ,and when there is sunshine for a few days ,the dusty air makes life miserable. The number of accidents has also been increasing for the past several months for the plight of the highway at this stretch.

It is worth mentioning that the Raha unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Tiwa Students Union (TSU) along with the local people blocked the NH-37 on May 13 at Raha demanding the early repairing of the highway.

At present the residents of the Raha town are on hope that their problem would be taken seriously by the National Highway authority,Nagaon division and come forward with necessary steps to improve the present condition of the highway for the convenience of the people.
