Govt to declare special meritorious scholarship scheme for poor students


Keeping in view to assist the meritorious but poor students of the state, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will soon be declaring a new special scholarship scheme which is not only meant for the position holders but for those who could not secure 1st division but meritorious and needy. Besides this, the top grading schools will also be given fiscal aid from the Government.


According to the sources attached to the CM secretariat, the new scheme is aimed to provide financial help to those students who could not secure 1st division but are meritorius and needy.


''Meanwhile the Chief Minister has issued necessary directives to the education department to prepare the estimated budget for the special scholarship scheme"-the official added.


It is worth mentioning that the Assam Govt. in 2005 had conferred Anundoram Barua Award to 12756 nos of students who secured 1st division,which includes a computer and a citation. This was followed by 13493 students in 2006, 12708 in 2007, 17331 in 2008 and 17362 students in 2009. From now onwards, the 1st division holders will be awarded with a laptop and a citation besides other fiscal help for the meritorious but poor students.
