Brown sugar caught at Barpeta town
A group of CRPF jawans today caught three persons with brown sugar at Jania Road, Metuakuchi at Barpeta town under Barpeta PS in Barpeta district at about 11.40. According to report said that the group of 6 CRPF ( No-C-10) batellian of Barpeta road Paat Bazar led by inspector of CRPF Bhim Singh had got the information about the drugs businessmen formerly and that is why the group were wandering at Jania road in order to catch the drugs businessmen. One of the CRPF jawans in dsguise of customer had been awaiting in a Tata Sumo ( As- 10-M-1473) for the drugs businessmen. As soon as one of the businessmen Chand Mia (30), son of Kurpan Ali of Kandapara under Barpeta PS in Barpeta district came to sell the Brown sugar to the jawan in exchange of three lakhs of rupees, he was caught red handed. The other two persons were about to fled away, but the group of CRPF jawans caught them. The two others were-- Nurul Haque Mallik(22), son of Abdul Baset Mallik of Jaher pam in Barpeta district under Barpeta PS and another one Samejuddin (35) son of Banij Mia of Bheragaon in Barpeta district. The CRPF group recovered from them a packet of suspected brown sugar ( 950 gm), three mobile hand sets. In the packet it was mentioned that it was manufactured in Thailand, Double Tiger, weight- 950 and at last a name was also written Dr. Umesh ch. Talukdar. According to the confession of Samejuddin Chand Mia brought the brown sugar packet and he( Samejuddin) contacted with the CRPF jawans. On the contrary Chand Mia had taken the brown sugar from one Inal. The cost of the seized brown sugar would be lakhs of rupees in international market. The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the DC Barpeta to take appropriate measures on the sudden price hike of the essential commodities.
Barpeta district Gramin Dak Sevak union today staged two-hours-long demonstration at Barpeta post office premises demanding to submit the report of 6th pay commission. Mentionable that about 3 lakh Gramin Dak Sevak have been serving in a nomial rate year after year. Though other postal workers have been getting the benefits of the central govt, these Gramin Dak Sevas have been deprived of the facilities. The death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva was observed at Barpeta Satra (Assamese monastery) by conducting a traditional Kirtan Mahotsava. Kirtans are devotional songs sang in the local language. According to the tradition, a regular prasanga(prayer) was held in the morning and later the gayan- bayans performed gurughata and then Bhojan Byebahaar was held. Barpeta district Anganbadi workers/ helpers Association staged a 4-hour demonstration at DC office premises on September 1 protesting to fulfill their various demands. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it was stated that they have been urging the govt to fulfill their demands, but all are futile. In their demands payment of the enhanced rate on central govt salary to the workers; 80% reservation in the vacant post of the chief service women, upgradation of the helpers in the vacant post of Anganwadi workers, stop the work of ICDS to the NGOs.
