AGP lost the lone Mudoibori BTC constituency
The defeat of AGP candidate Keshab Deka in 35 Mudoibori constituency in the recent BTC election has been considered as the biggest blow to AGP in recent times. BPF candidate Jagadish Sarkar ,who had been the central secretary of the party defeated Keshab Deka by a margin of 6,831 votes.Jagadish Sarkar got 14,144 votes while Keshab Deka ( the lone MCLA,in the last BTC )could manage only 7,313 votes, although big names of the state AGP,including its president, Chandra Mohan Patowari;Birendra Prasad Baishya,MP (RS);Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya;Hiren Das,MLA etc.had campaigned hard for Deka in Mudoibari constituency. It was widely alleged that keshab Deka had misappropriated huge amounts of public fund under his LAD schemes during the last five years for which he had to face public wrath irrespective of political affiliation.
On the other hand the victory of Jagadish Sarkar of BPF was possible due to the clean image of Maheswar Baro,MLA of Kalaigaon constituency, which attracted large numbers of voters irrespective of party lines.Talking to media persons at a press meet held at BPF Kalaigaon office on April 14, Jagadish Sarkar thanked all the voters of 35 Mudoibori constituency for his victory. But at the same time he said that he would work for the welfare of all the ethnic and languistic groups. He also said that those who had voted against him would also be taken into confidance. He declared that he would never compromise with any kind of corruption in the comming days. It needs mention that the presence of other political parties like BPPF,Congress,UDPF etc could hardly felt in the recent BTC election.
