Chidambaram on NE visit, takes stock of NHPC works
Amid an uneasy situation union home minister P Chidambaram on Friday visited the on going NHPC project at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district bordering Arunachal Pradesh. He held a meet with the top officials and reviewed the progress. The visit assumed significance after scores injured a few days back when security forces sprang upon a huge gathering led by KMSS as they were raising protest against NHPC's big dams. Before that Chidambaram visited the Tawang monestary in the morning. The union minister arrived in Guwahati on Thursday and left for Itanagar on Friday as part of his 4day visit to the region. He is further likely to visit Indo-Bangla border to assess the situation in the wake BDR firing at Muktapur in Meghalaya.
