Woman urged to protect their rights

The annual session of Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti was observed at Kalaigaon on 27 and 28 March 2010 at Kalaigaon Town LP School premises with gaiety.Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti was formed by Bina Rani Gogoi at a meeting held at Kalaigaon poloice station on January 30 in 1955.The hoisting of Mahila samiti flag by Renu Medhi,president,Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti marked the beginning of the two days programme on March 27 at 8 am followed by homage paying ceremony conducted by Maheswari Devi,advisor of the samiti at 9 am.Sports competitions were arranged on the occasion at 10 am where members of the samiti including elderly ladies participated.The most interesting “Go as you like” competition was was held at 1 pm where Mrinalini Hazarika and Premada Barman (Punjabi couple) won first prize. The second days programme started with spot drawing competition which was conducted by artist Tulika Rabha followed by an exhibition of handicraft and handloom products which was inaugurated by senior woman activist Mira Baruah. A demonstrative “Aai Naam” competition was arranged at 11 am guided by Hemalata Saharia. The open session was held at 2 pm which was presided over by noted woman activist of the state Rani Devi of Mangaldai. Noted singer Dr.Anima Choudhuri attended the open session as the chief guest. On the occasion she said that unless and until women of the society come forward for their own causes,social upliftment process would be hampered.She requested the women of the society to keep vigil against injustice done to women and children of the society. Miran Devi and Runa Devi,joint secretaries of Darrang Zilla Mahila Samiti also addressed the open session. Several distinguished persons namely – social worker Kami Ram Saharia, Mahendra Saikia,Kamal Prasad Sarma,Lohit Nath Amiya Kumar Nath, Citra Patowary etc attended the open session.
