An uneasy situation is prevailing in the Cottion College campus when a girl student commit suicide on Monday. Talking to newsmen at the college campus magistrate Chinmoy Phukan confirmed that Sahanaz Rahman, a degree student in the stream of science committed suicide by hanging at a newly constructed building in the campus after she reached there to appear in the examination. Shahanaz hails from Machkhowa area. Later her body was taken for post mortem in presence of magistrate. Meanwhile a pall of gloom is descending in the entire campus following the incident. It took place hardly a month after a student committed suicide near girl hostel in the Gauhati university campus.

These cases become regular in India as a whole. As a Research Scholar,I think high expectation,undeclared competition with fellow mates, career orientation, loss of academic year and family pressure together create more stress among exam candidates. So, there needs caring people at home to cope with the situation. Hope, these things will never happen again.

The number of suicide cases among the students in Assam is increasing. It is the right time to open counselling centre in every colleges so that the student can take help in their need. This is a sad incident. Pray for the immortal soul.

Three kilos of powerful explosive along with other equipments were recovered in a joint search operation by police at a village near Rangjuli in Goalpara district last night. Police also arrested two suspected ULFA linkmen in this regard. According to sources, acting on a tip of Special Branch of Assam police led by SP Ranjan Bhuyan and Goalpara police led by Addl SP Sushanta Biswa Sharma launched an operation at Landakunda village under Dhupdhara police station and made the recovery. Assam and Meghalaya are all set to hold a high level meeting on Thursday to defuse the simmering tension in Langpih. The meeting is slated to be held in the chief secretary level in Guwahati to discuss the recent eviction drive in the area where Kamrup district administration demolished a public hall allegedly built by West West Khasi Hills district administration. Coal India will sign fuel supply agreement with NTPC for 750 MW power plant in Assam. Disclosing this in parliament on Monday, Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said that the government has asked Cola India to strike deal with NTPC to set up 3x 250 MW power project at Bongaigaon. He said that the coal ministry has already issued instructions to Coal India Ltd to sign fuel supply agreement for supply of coal. The minister also said that one unit of the power project of NTPC of a capacity of 250 MW was likely to be commissioned next fiscal, which the other two units in 2014-15 and 2015-16. IED seized from ULFA linkmen A major incident of explosion was averted when police recovered a powerful IED in Goalpara town on Monday. The IED weighing around 3.5 kg, meant to be planted in the town was seized from two ULFA linkmen who were arrested on the Assam-Meghalaya border in the district.

Police arrested five persons on Sunday in connection with the theft of bitumen, worth Rs 50 lakh in Morigaon district. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested five persons from Dharamtul area of the district and seized huge quantities of bitumen from them. The bitumen, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh, had been stolen by the five from a consignment for use in ongoing construction activity at National Highway number 37.
One person was killed and three others seriously injured in a road mishap in Golaghat district on Sunday.The driver of a speeding car lost control of the vehicle which skidded off the road killing one person on the spot and injuring three others in Badulipar area. The dead has been identified as Meherban Khan and the injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
