2 ULFA leaders to be release in Guwahati; CM, Chidambaram to talk in Delhi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is holding a close door meet with Union home minister P Chidambaram on Thursday to begin formal spadework to hold talk with ULFA even as two top leaders of the outfit are set to be released from jail on Thursday.

According to information, accompanied by state director general of police Sankar Baruah, the chief minister will apprise Chidambaram of the latest development in terms of paving the way for the talk. Sources here say the sensational Rs 1,000 crore scam that rocked the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council is expected to figure in the meet.

The hope of ULFA-government talk seems brightens as two ULFA leaders ---vice chairman Pradeep Gogoi and publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary were granted bail on Tuesday by a local TADA court. Significantly, the government raised no objection as the court was in a process to deliver its final judgment on the bail petitions before the TADA court. The jailed top guns of the banned outfit have been demanding their release to expedite the talk saying they can’t carry forward the process with hand cuff. The jail authorities on Wednesday refused to release Daimary and Gogoi citing some delayed official procedures 24 hours after they were granted bail by a local TADA court. However, the duo are expected to be released on Thursday.

Very recently, Assam Chief Minister gave hint of the release of a few ULFA leaders to expedite the process.

In yet another recent development, the authorities have shifted ULFA ideologue Bhimkanta Burahgohain from Tezpur to the Guwahati Central jail. It may be noted that the proscribed outfit fighting for a sovereign state have seven top leaders in the jail.
