Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Borkakoty a specialist in international trade sais an analysis of the ULFA's reasons in favour of their demand for a sovereign state of Assam reveals that the insurgents are self-appointed freedom fighters on behalf of the Assamese people who do not want an independent Assam.

Borkotoky, a former professor at Middlesex University, London said ULFA's 'misguided nationalism' did not command the support of the people of Assam. "That sense is polluted by indiscriminate killing and mindless violence," he said.
