Distance learning centre open in Barpeta

A distance and Open Learning Centre namely Sankardev Distance and Open Learning centre was opened at Barpeta by the Srimanta Sankardev Sachetan Mancha at Barpeta Vidyapith HS school under Krishna Kanta Handique State Distance and Open Learning Centre of Assam which is affilated by the UGC Guwahati university and Central Distance and open Learning Centre.


Mentionable that this institute is for those students above 18 years of age who have been deprived of getting the academic education in the institutions due to various problems. In the inaugural function of the institute was inaugurated by Dr. KishoriMohan Pathak, ex- Vice chancellor Tezpur Central University with the lightening of the lamp. In this meeting Rajat Baran anta, register, Krishna Kanta Handique state open university was present as the chief guest and Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Academic Adviser, , Mass Communication Department, KK Handique state Open University. In thier address duo speaker spoke about the importance and facilities of an open university and how the deprived students have been benefited by the courses that was in this distance education. The meet was presided over by Dalim Pathak, president, Srimanta Sankardev Sachetan Mancha, Assam whereas Akshay Kr. Misra, literatuer, Atul Ch. Goswami, principal, Yuthos Junior College, and Hirendra Nath Sarma, principal, Barpeta Vidyapith HS school were also took parrt as the honorable guests. The welcome address was delivered by Arjun Ch. Das, Ex- principal, M.C. College, Barpeta. The people of Barpeta also hope ful that such type of open and distance learning centres must help the students

Barpeta district CPI(ML) today observed jail-bhoro programme protesting against the skyrocketing price hike and the continuous corruption in implementing the various NREGA schemes of the entire district. The district unit took out a procession with slogan against the governments towards the deputy commissioner's office and in front of Deputy commissioner's office they staged demonstration. The urged the government for controlling the skyrocketing price hike which has made the lives of the general people measurable. On the other hand the corruption in NREGA schemes also harassed the people depriving the proper persons.

The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the DC Barpeta to take appropriate measures on the sudden price hike of the essential commodities.
Barpeta district Gramin Dak Sevak union today staged two-hours-long demonstration at Barpeta post office premises demanding to submit the report of 6th pay commission. Mentionable that about 3 lakh Gramin Dak Sevak have been serving in a nomial rate year after year. The death anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva was observed at Barpeta Satra (Assamese monastery) by conducting a traditional Kirtan Mahotsava. Barpeta district Anganbadi workers/ helpers Association staged a 4-hour demonstration at DC office premises on September 1 protesting to fulfill their various demands. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it was stated that they have been urging the govt to fulfill their demands, but all are futile. In their demands payment of the enhanced rate on central govt salary to the workers; 80% reservation in the vacant post of the chief service women, upgradation of the helpers in the vacant post of Anganwadi workers, stop the work of ICDS to the NGOs.
