Technology Week – An Innovative Programme for farmers celebrated in KVK, Nagaon

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon in collaboration with the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Shillongani celebrated a Technology Week from December 29, 2009 to January 4, 2010. The programme was inaugurated by Dr K.M.Bujarbaruah, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat who attended the meeting as Chief Guest. The welcome address was delivered by Dr T.P.Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagaon. The inaugural meeting was also attended by Dr B.C.Bhowmick, Director of Extension Education, AAU, Dr. A.Chaudhury, DVO, Mr. Gautam Barman, DDM, NABARD as Guest of Honour. Dr. B. Barman, Chief Scientist, RARS, Shillongani highlighted the recent research achievements and recommendations of the Station in the meeting.


A seminar on ‘Sustainable Agriculture & Future Perspectives was organised as part of the programme which was inaugurated by Mr. Gautam Barman, DDM, NABARD Drs. B.Guha, P.K.Das and H.Kalita, Principal Scientists, RARS, Shillongani delivered lectures as resource persons on different aspects of Integrated farming.


An Exhibition was also organized on this occasion where 20 nos. of Departmental stalls and Self Help Groups participated. Private agencies like EXCEL India, Dow Agro-sciences, Vetcare, IFFCO, Bordoloi Nursery, Cousins Herbal Garden also took part. A total 50 nos. of Farm machineries and implements, various models, live specimens were also displayed.


A training programme on “Preservation of Fruits & Vegetables” sponsored by ATMA, Nagaon was conducted on 29th December, 2009 where 50 nos. of women farmers participated. Ms. P.Nath and Ms. S.Das of KVK Nagaon demonstrated different method of preservation.


A peasant-scientist interaction on field problems was also held. Dr B.Guha, Dr. D. Pathak, Dr. S.Pathak of RARS and Dr. T.P.Saikia, Dr. B.Dutta, Ms. A.M.Deka, Mr. C.K.Deka, Mr. D.Nath, Mr. U.K.Deka, Mr. J.Dutta, Mr. N.N.Kalita of KVK took part as resource persons in the interactive session. More than two hundred peasants participated in the Week long Programme.


Field visits to different farm units of the Research Station and KVK led by Dr. I.A.Seikh, Dr. H.K.Borah and Dr, D.Pathak was also conducted as a part of the programme to acquaint the farmers on latest the latest technological advances in respect to crop varieties and agronomical practices.
