Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.


'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.


This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.


It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

Pak flag in Udalguri: Gogoi wants to go for CBI probe

Major blast averted in the city

A major blast has been averted in the city when police recovered two live bomb on Sunday morning. According to information, police recovered two live bombs at Bhagaduttapur in Kahilipara area in the ciy of Guwahati. Two people have so far been arrested in this connection.

Sonia rushes team to visit Udalguri, Darrang

Ahmed submits report to PM on Assam violence

Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed has submitted his report on the communal clashes in lower Assam’s Darrang and Udalguri districts where 62 people have been killed, several villages have been torched and over one lakh have been rendered homeless in a week. Gogoi orders judicial probe into communal clashes

The Assam government has ordered a judicial probe into the ethnic violence in Darrang and Udalguri districts that has claimed 62 lives even as normalcy is back to these areas.During his visit on Thursday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced the judicial probe and that the government will soon come out with a master plan to rehabilitate the riot hot people. Gogoi visits Darrang, Udalguri to pave the way for normalcy

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday visited the violence-hit areas of Udalguri and Darrang districts in where at least 62 people were killed, hundreds of houses torched and over one lakh people have been rendered homeless.The Chief Minister visited the Bhakatpara and Bechimari camps, where more than 10,000 people have taken shelter. Normalcy returns to these areas and curfew had been withdrawn from most parts of the affected districts.However, both indigenous people and immigrant settlers were still maintaining night vigil as the villagers were trying to rebuild their lives as more than 120 houses had been torched with majority of the victims were indigenous people.

8 injured in blast near Guwahati puja function

Despite an elaborate security arrangement, a minor blast rocked Japorijog area in Guwahati on Thursday evening near a puja pandal leaving 8 persons injured.
