Eminent painter and Associate Professor of IIT Guwahati, Dr. Utpal Barua will interact with the media persons in the city tomorrow (September 18). During the hour-long programme, to be held in Guwahati Press Club at 11 am, Barua will reveal his experience about his participation in the Beijing Olympic Games last year. Mentionable that Utpal Barua was invited to Beijing by the Olympics Committee for display his painting 'A butterfly was passing by' in an exhibition of works of art from across the globe.
He is amongst he 300 international artists from 80 countries whose work has been selected for permanent display. His painting also selected under the Indian master" category by a panel of International jury for "Master Statement", an International exhibition of outstanding contemporary Indian artists at Taman Ismail Marzuki Art Gallery, Jakarta 2008. Now, The International Jury of Olympic Fine Arts 2008 ( OFA2008), Beijing has chosen the painting ' A Butterfly waspassing by' by Dr. Utpal Barua of Design Dept for the Best entry award of a Gold medal, said in the website of IIT Guwahati.
In fact Utpal Barua is the first artist from Northeast to participate in an Olympic meet. Conceptualized and patronized by the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Fine Arts was held for the first time during the Sydney Olympic Games 2000 as an Olympic sports and art contest. The second contest was held during the Athens Olympics in 2004. It has been one of the most successful international art events that features sports and culture on a single platform, informed Barua.

Supreme Court on Wednesday talked of two options before the government to end the decade old Assam-Nagaland border row.
