Eastern Fare Music Foundation - a will to succeed

Jim Ankan Deka, becomes the first Assamese to open a music institution and a production house in Bangalore, India. Eastern Fare Music Foundation had its origination in 2007. Presently the foundation has six institutions and two recording studios. While Jim is the proprietor, two of his friends Mr Anand PM from Kerala and Miss Parmita Borah from Assam help him in running the show. So far the institution has over 400 students with six full and part time teachers. They teach mainly Guitar, Keyboard and Piano in Western Classical Style. Their students sit for Trinity exams.

Jim Ankan Deka is the son of the celebrated Assamese litterateur and economist Late Bhabananda Deka and poet Nalini Prabha Deka. Jim has been composing and arranging Music since his childhood. So far he has arranged music for various Films, Music Albums, Jingles, Video Games, Documentaries and TV Series in an array of languages including Assamese, Hindi, English, Kannada, Nagamese and Mizo. He has had a stint with "Goalporia Folk Songs" as well. He has nine albums till date and is working on three albums in Kannada, English and Assamese language.

Eastern Fare Studio has been helping the upcoming bands with the recording and promotion. They have two four piece and five piece bands in Bangalore consist of students of Eastern Fare who play retro and classic rock music in different clubs and resorts. Jim Ankan himself has a band named 'Veenar' with the renowned Kannada musician Suchethan Rangaswami who are working on their debut album to be released in November this year.

It is surely a great news for budding musicians. I think people like Jim Deka should get more focus.

Jim, definitely has been a talent. I have visited him and his school personally; and persona and the vibe exhibited there show the dedication of a devoted musician. Wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

New Television Channel News Network launched

A new television channel named as News Network is going to be launched in the first half of August, 2011. Assam scholars participate at International conference held in Bhutan

Five scholars from Assam were invited to participate and present their papers in the 4th International Conference organized by the South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture and Religion under the auspices of the UNESCO held at Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan from June 30-July 03, 2011. 100 injured as Guwahati-Puri Express derails in blast

At least 120 people have been injured when Adivasi Peoples’ Army triggered a powerful blast on the railway tracks in Rangiya that derailed four bogies of the Guwahati-Puri Express on Sunday. The incident took place in between Rangiya and Ghagrapar at around 8 in the evening. A deafening sound rocked the entire area just before the derailment where over 100 passengers have been injured. They have been rushed to the Rangiya hospital. A large crater was created on the tracks because of the the impact of the remote-controlled blast.

Gogoi to table state budget on Monday

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is all set to table the state budget for 2011-2012 on the day one of the budget session on Monday. The ten day long session will also hold debate on the budget on July 14 and 15. Meanwhile, the authorities have beefed up security in and around Dispur to thwart any attempt to create law and order situation during this session. Policemen are building big barricades in and around the Last Gate where the various organizations are set to stage demonstration raising their demands. The authorities have restricted the movements of the city buses through the Last Gate from Monday.

Free medical camp held in Shillong

KMSS vows to prevent the prospect of big dams at any cost

RTI activist Akhil Gogoi says they will at any cost prevent the prospect of big dams that would spell ecological disaster in Assam. KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi on Sunday blamed it all on the Gogoi government for the recent Dispur clash that killed three persons including a minor boy on June 22. Addressing a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on Sunday, Gogoi said that the government is desperately trying to hide the Mitra Panel which blamed the administrative lapses for the clash. He dared the Chief Minister to publish the Mitra panel report by 24 hours apart from the proposed judicial probe to unearth the truth.

Gogoi backs big dames

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday made it plain and simple that he and his government support big dames. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday he said that his government will help NHPC get the standred turbines at Gerukamukh at any cost.Gogoi,s comment assumes significance in view of the statewide protest against the safe passage of the turbines now blocked in Dhubri.
