Residential multi-skill and leadesrhip programme inaugurated by Chief Minister

A three week long residential multi skill and leadership development programme was launched by Chief Minister of Assam Sri Tarun Gogoi at a brief and solemn function held at the State Museum Auditorium on 10th July, 2009 at 11 am. The programme is being organized jointly by the newly established IGNOU Institute of Vocational Education and Training , Shillong , in collaboration with North East Girl Students Association (NEGSA) , North East Development Finance Corporation Limited(NEDFI) and sponsored by Oil India Limited. Altogether 90 participants from various parts of the NE region are participating in the event , who have been provided to and fro traveling expense and free accommodation and fooding by the organizing committee. About 20 participants are drawn from families from Kokrajhar, Bagsa, Nalbari, Barpeta etc that have become the victim of terrorist violence The main objective of the programme is to build up a dedicated and empowered group of trained young women who can play a proactive role in the nation building process. During the programme , the participants are being trained in Yoga and meditation, Art of Public Speaking, Communication Skill, Physical Fitness , Self Defence, Legal Awareness, RTI Act, Entrepreneurship Awareness, Self Confidence, Leadership Training, Time Management,. Interview skill, Disaster Management and First Aid training, Raising Emotional Intelligence etc.


Miss Munmi Dutta, President, NEGSA , delivered the welcome address . Sri Tarun Gogoi in his inaugural speech appreciated the effort taken up by IGNOU and NEGSA and assured all possible help from the State Government. He stated that the Govt shall come forward to help in setting up a full fledged Vocational Training Centre for providing round the year training programmes, Referreing to the National Skill development Mission, he said that there are many talented women in the region who can establish themselves to be successful entrepreneurs by receiving proper guidance and assistance.


The inaugural programme was also addressed by Padmashree Natwar Thakkar, Mr Rekibuddin Ahmed, Member Secretary, State Level Advisory Board for welfare of Youth and Students, Mr Akshoy Sharma, general Manager( Planning) , NEDFI, Mrs Bina Gupta, Vice Principal, Hansdique Girls’ College., Mr Khalilur Rahman, Project Co-ordinator of Aswas for Barpeta District. and Dr Gagan Chandra Baruah, Former Principal, Handique Girls’ College.


Dr Vardhini Bhattacharyya, Regional Director, IGNOU , Guwahati Regional centre , offered the Vote of thanks. She mentioned about the various initiatives that has been taken up by the Guwahati Regional Centre for the benefit of the youth of the region which includes Screen Printing training, Mobile Phone Repairing, etc All these programmes are conducted free of cost and a large number of youths and women have benefited from it.

The programme is unique, specially the effort taken to help the girls from terrorist affected families. Congratulations to IGNOU, NEGSA , NEDFI , OIL and other collaborators.

It is really heartening to know that IGNOU and OIL are coming forward to practically help the women of the region. Other Corporate sectors should also adopt agenda to help and train the vast pool of young women who can be made highly skilled to compete at the National as well as International level. Tourism development is one sector which have great potentiality and needs to be focussed.

Empowering and training the young girls is the need of the hour. Remarkable transformations in the society can be achieved through the development of the girl and young women. Indeed a very good effor, which needs to be replicated at all the states of NE region.

Blast in Tezpur town: 9 injured

Altogether nine people have been injured when a powerful bomb exploded in Tezpur town at around 2-30 on this afternoon. Three of them are in critical. According to information, the blast took place at Bargola, at a distance of 100 meter away from the Tezpur Police station. Eyewitness say the bomb was planted at a bicycle. The injured people have been rushed to hospital. Police and civil officials are there in the spot. But no lead has been achieved so far. Details are awaited.

Guv can talk only to Chief Secy

The Assam Government is sending a strong message to the Governor that barring the Chief secretary he cannot call officials if he wants to review th implementation of any works of various projects. It was decided at a cabinet meeting in Dispur on Tuesday. The government has made it clear citing the Blue Book. The cabinet has also passed a decision to raise the constabulary qualification to HSLC pass.

6th Kaziranga Elephant Festival rescheduled for April 18-20

The 6th Kaziranga Elephant Festival has been postponed to April 18-20 due to the ongoing examinations, elephant census in the KNP scheduled from February 20 to 26 as well as some other reasons.Earlier, it was informally decided to organise the KEF from February 27 to 29 . The decision to postpone the festival was taken at a public meeting held at the convention centre, Kohora under the chairmanship of Golaghat Deputy Commissioner DK Goswami where officers and representatives of different organisations were present.Ranjit Hazarika, the SDO(C), Bokakhat who is also the general secretary of the KEF, organising committee, informed that some more features will be added this year in the festival...

Police batons illegal occupants of government land in Tripura

Police charged with batons on an illegal occupant of government land as he tries to block roads and stop police from entering in Agartala, Tripura on 26-02-08. Hundreds of police personnel armed with batons, shields, tear gas and gun started gathering at the Kunjaban area right from the dawn and warned illegal occupants to evacuate the area to which the occupants attacked thus police were compelled to use of baton. 21 persons most of them women were injured and at least 42 persons were arrested. Protest against galloping price hike

The city BJP workers on Tuesday strongly staged protest against the recent hike in petroleum prices along with the galloping prices of essential commodities. It was a part of the countrywide protest against the recent hike the petroleum prices. State BJP president Ramen Deka, state youth BJP president Dilip Saikia Guwhati youth BJP president Sashankajyoti Deka, Pradip Thakuria were among those who participated in the protest programme organised in Kalapahar area by the Guwahati youth wings.

Pulakesh threatens legal action against Govt

Former Assam Assembly Speaker Pulakesh Baruah will seek legal action against the excess inflicted on him after he was arrested by the Nalbari police in connection with the teacher recruitment scam in Nalbari district. Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, he suspected the role of senior minister Bhumidhar Barman who said that the arrest was as per the High Court instruction. Mr Baruah informed that there was no High Court order to arrest him. The former Assam Assembly Speaker and sitting Trinamool Gana Parishad president was arrested by the Nalbari police from his own residence at the Sarat Chandra Singha Road in Guwahati. Missing Sivasagar soldier back home after 21 yrs

For Jeena Gogoi, it's a long spell of 21 years to get her husband back. Prabin is back since he was missing from atop Arunachal Pradesh while he was on duty. But the 10th Assam Regiment Subeder finds it quite difficult to remember everything and even his mother tongue.Trouble was brewing in the family as soon as Prabin, a resident of Charing Baruwati gaon in Sivasagar district was found missing from Tawang in 1987. His wife Jeena was staying at a rented house at Melachakar in Sivasagar town with three children when her husband was missing from Arunachal Pradesh. The message that shocked Jeena, her three children and relatives was received just a few month before the birth of the fourth one...

EC announces RS poll for Assam on March 26

Its’ official. The Election Commission is all set to hold Rajya Sabha election for three seats from Assam on March 26 along with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal Bihar, Orissa, Guajrat. Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. According to the schedule announced by the EC, notifications would be issued on March 8 and the last date for filing nominations would be on March 15. The papers will go for scrutiny on March 17 while the last date for withdrawal of nominations would be on March 19. Counting of votes would take place on March 26 at the end of the polling.
