Citizen Journalism is act of citizen playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. It has put democracy back in people's hands. Citizen Journalists equipped with mobile phones, portable cameras, and blogs, are rapidly becoming alternative media as a reliable and wide-ranging source of information throughout the world. Citizen Journalism plays an important role on NGOs on information dissemination for widely spreading their messages to community.
In a bid to promote the concept of Citizen Journalism and new media, Foundation for People Empowerment is going to organise a workshop in Guwahati on 27 and 28 July, 2009. The workshop is being organised in association with New Delhi based One World South Asia. There is no joining fee for the workshop and participants will be able to gain knowledge on various aspects related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Citizen Journalism. The workshop is mainly designed for the grassroots organisation and organisation working with the communities. Interested students may also participate in the workshop, which will enhance their skills and will be able to build capacity.
Foundation for People Empowerment works towards development of the society through the use of ICT. It has been working towards awareness of ICT tools among the civil society organizations and empowering them with hands-on training. On the other hand One World – South Asia is the South Asian centre of the international non-profit OneWorld network that aims to use the democratic potential of ICTs to promote sustainable development and human rights in the region. Certificates will be provided to participants apart from study materials and information related to fellowships, grants and funding opportunities.
