Assam mourns as governor Mathur dies

Assam Governor Shiv Charan Mathur on Thursday following heart ailment at a hospital in New Delhi. He was 83. The end came at around 8 in the evening at thr Fortis Hospital in the national capital. According to information, the governor complained of respiratory trouble in the evening and was shifted to the Fortis Hospital s few hours after he was released from the Escorts Hospital following his recovery. Mathur was taken ill earlier this month and was shifted to Escorts Hospital in New Delhi June 18. Mathur was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. The season political leader and two time Chief Minister of Rajasthan took over Assam governor in July last year. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who arrived in the Fortis Hospital immdiately after Mathur died lead Assam in mourning the death of the veteran political leader. The Assam government declared a state holiday declared on Friday as a mark of respect.

A fruitful peace process is set to come up in the discussion between Assam Chief Minister Taun Gogoi and Union home minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Tuesday. Chidambaram is set to discuss the law and order situation in the hills district before going to prepare the roadmap for restoration of peace and also the adherence of ceasefire ground rules by the DHD and DHD(J) rebel outfits. The Central Bureau of Investigation says National Democratic Front of Boroland chairman Ranjan Daimary is the prime accused in the October 30 Assam serial blasts case. According to CBI sources, Daimary hatched the plan for the explosions three months earlier.
