Meritorious students feted
“Kendukalai”, a noted socio-economic organization of Kalaigaon areas organized a public meeting on June 6 at 11 am to felicitate six meritorious students of Kalaigaon areas ,who have excelled in the recent HSLC examination 2009.The meeting was presided over by noted journalist Bhargab Kumar Das,who had also been the president of “Kendukalai” since its establishment in 1988. Col. Ajit Kumar Borah, Commanding Officer of 65 Field Regiment, under Red Horn Division (camp Chapai, Mangaldai) attended the felicitation programme as the chief guest. It needs mention that Col. Borah had been a student of Mangaldai Govt. HS School before joining Goalpara Sainik School and later NDA.
Dandi Kumar Baro, secretary, ”Kendukalai” welcomed Col. Borah with Gamocha and Japi. He also read out the felicitation letters addressed to the six students. In his speech, chief guest Col. Borah expressed his happiness at the arrangement and thanked the organizers for encouraging the students. He requested students and guardians to work hard for good results. According to him there had never been a short cut to success. On the occasion, he proudly mentioned the names of a few top brass army and IAF Assamese officers of India who had once been the student of Goalpara Sainik School. The felicitated students were - Pranab Kumar Nath, Himangshu Deka and Nayan Jyoti Saharia of Kalaigaon HSS; Sapon Jyoti Deka of Silpota HS; Parag Jyoti Nath of Chengapara HS and Pranjyoti Nath of Tengabari Janata Vidyapith HS.
Radhika Nath,widow mother of Pranjyoti Nath in her speech explained about the role of a mother in preparing children for success in life. Social worker Kami Ram Saharia and Mahendra Saikia; Kandeswar Deka, principal, Kalaigaon HSS; Arabinda Das, principal, Kalaigaon College; former AASU leader Hiren Saharia also spoke a few words on the occasion.

Another shocking example of the death of a baby wild elephant in Udalguri district has come to light to much disappointment of people.
