HS results: Chayanika tops arts, Manoj science and Bidisha commerce

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has declared the results of the Higher Secondary examinations of 2009 in science, arts and commerce streams on Tuesday. Chayanika Baruah from Kakojan College of Jorhat tops the arts stream while Bidisha Agrawal of the Guwahati Commerce College Agrawal has topped the commerce. The first position in science stream this year goes to Manoj Swargiary, a private candidate in Barpeta district. The results are will be available at 11 in the morning in all district headquarters. The Council conducted the examination across the state in February.


The percentage of successful candidate in arts is 69.99 while the it is 72.11 in commerce and 80.23 in science stream. Darrang district takes the lead in arts stream while Nalbari district tops in science stream while and Dhemaji district steals the march in commerce stream.

Of 1,50,419 candidates in arts, 5,323 candidates have secured in first division, 17,179 second division and 72,917 candidates have been placed in third division. The total number of candidates this time in commerce stream is 11,682 and these 1,338 get first division, 2541 second and 4545 candidates have been placed in third division.

In science stream, out of 12,531 candidates 3,030 candidates have secired first division, 5,396 second division while the remaining 1,627 candidates have been planed in second division.

CONGRATULATIONS to the toppers and all those who have come out with flying colours. Keep it Up! As for those who didn't do well or couldn't perform upto their expectations, life is more than marks and grades. It really feels low now, but you would realize later.

National poets’ meet held at Bokakhat

Adil, Angelika lift tennis title

Adil Hakim of Australia (in picture) won the boys singles title in the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis championship at the Chachal Tennis complex on Friday. In the final Hakim beat Lewicki Filip of Poland in straight set 6-4,6-1.In the girls section the final was also an one sided affair and Angelika Aliev of Israel won the title clash defeating Sevil Alieva of Azarbaijan in straight set 6-4,6-2.Meanwhile Poland pair Stefaniak Piotr and Majchrowicz Adam emerged champion in the boys doubles event while Starkova Valentina (Kaz) and Alieva Sevil (Aza) won the girls title.

Kaushik's dream run end in semis

A dream run in the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis Championship finally came to an end for Kaushik Das as he today lost the boys singles semi final against Lewicki Filip of Poland at the Chachal tennis court on Thursday. The Assam lad was in his best form in the tournament and even in the semi final too he played superbly but Filip finally managed to over come the challenge of Das. Citizens demand round-table meet

A citizens' meet organised by the Journalists' Forum, Assam (JFA) on Thursday demanded a round-table conference among various ethnic groups in Assam to discuss their demands, which, in some cases, appear to be conflicting.The meeting held at the Guwahati Press Club, was organised in connection with the unfortunate incident of November 24 in the Beltola-Dispur area of the city and its aftermath.The citizens, who included noted litterateur Nirupama Borgohain and veteran journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty, said in a resolution that the demands, if considered separately, might lead to further misunderstanding in an already polarised society. Violinist Sunita Bhuyan performed at the Hindustani music evening of Celebrate Bandra on 24th of November at the Carter Road Promenade, Mumbai. Jairam hints at Stillwell reopening
