In Autonomous seat a presiding officer at a booth in Diphu constituency on Thursday allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat. But however, polling remained unaffected .
According to information, presiding officer Dinanath Basumatary was found with his throat slit in the bathroom of polling station 40 at Dokmoka, under Howraghat police station before the commencement of polling. He was immediately admitted to hospital in a serious condition.
Altogether 7,93,022 voters are exercising their franchise in Diphu comprising five assembly segments in two districts. The sitting MP and Congress candidate Biren Singh Ingty is seeking re-election while AGP and BJP have jointly fielded common candidate in Kulendra Daulagopu. Former MP and CPI-(ML) leader Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, NCP leader Siddharth Rongpi, ASDC’s Elwin Teron and independent lady candidate Kabun Timungpi are also in the fray.
