Sanjoy Hazarika Bereaved

Minal Hazarika wife of Sanjoy Hazarika, noted author, Journalist and Managing Trustee of Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (C-NES), passed away on at the Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi on April 3, 2009. She had suffered a stroke at Guwahati on 15 January 2009 and was undergoing treatment at Gangaram Hospital for nearly three months. She was in her fifties and was a well known figure in Assam and in New Delhi. She leaves behind a daughter (Meghna Hazarika) besides her husband. At this hour of grief we pray for the departed soul.

I never knew Mrs. Hazarika personally but I had a telecon with Mr. Hazarika and from what I have read of him and his films I have seen, at this moment my condolences and prayers are with him and his family.

I knew Sanjoy from our St. Edmund's school days in Shillong. Mrs Hazarika's work through C-NES has been an eyeopener for Indians vis-a-vis the North East. This loss is a great setback to propagation of the understanding of the psyche of northeasterners. May her soul rest in peace and may Sanjoy and Meghna have God's blessings to overcome this bereavement.

One dies in road accident at Tezpur.

Tinsukia DC takes action against errant officials

Tinsukia: The Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Dr P K Trivedi made a surprise visit to several offices falling within his jurisdiction and the result was that pay cuts were ordered for 84 employees in these offices for not coming to office on time. Fiserv India Targets 5,000 Headcount

Fiserv Inc, which provides information technology services to the financial services industry, is all set to move to destination India. Speaking to the media , Dr Arun Maheshwari, President, Fiserv Global Services Group, said the company has already made its presence felt by opening up centres in Noida. Currently, there are three locations in Noida with about 1,100 personnel on its rolls. Loan brings succor to Assam tea

Guwahati: A fresh lease of life awaits Assam’s tea industry. Altogether 24 companies have come out to revive the ailing sector with a huge Rs 48 crore loan money.These companies will devote the fund, named as the Special Tea Purpose Fund, in the replantation of bushes in 82 tea estates covering 1,925 hectares.The Assam tea Company is among those who are a part of this pact. Spices Board project comes up in Karbi Anglong

Tragic Train Mishap: 12 killed, 4 injured

Guwahati: Altogether 12 people died and 7 others injured when two locomotives and seven loaded wagons of the Bardarpur-bound Dn FCI Bhim goods train fell off bridge No. 108, 52 km from Lumding on Monday morning.According to Northeast Frontier Railway officials, the loco pilot (driver) of the ill-fated train, Deepak Sen, and six trackmen working at the site died on the spot, while six others died on the way to the hospital.Seven others, including MK Rajak, the assistant loco pilot, were injured.
