Massive gathering in Dhemaji Sahitya Sabha session

Massive gathering of at least 2 lakh people from across the state and outside make the Sukapha Samanya Khsetra a sea of humanity on Tuesday as the Asom Sahitya Sabha is holding the third day of the 70th session.

The colourful grand event on Tuesday began with a cultural function with the newly elected Asom Sahitya Sabha president and noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang. Several political leaders including Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi along with his several cabinet colleagues were seen sitting on the stage at the open session.

Notably, some anomalies and inconvenience have resulted in some resentment among the visitors and delegates who arrived in Dhemaji three or four days ago. But the Sabha officials have denied large scale inconvenience and anomalies.

I would like to thank the organizing committee and people of Dhemaji for hosting the Asom Sahitya Sobha at Sukapha Samanya Khestra. It is realy a great occasion for the people of Dhemaji as well as Assam.

Gogoi claims all round development

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said Assam has developed on all fronts. In his address at the anniversary function at Sarusajai function on Saturday, Gogoi said that the state now ranks in third position in the human resources development index. Bandh paralyses normal life in Goalpara

Youth Shot Dead at Dhupdhara

A 27 years old youth was found dead at Landakhunda village, bordering Assam-Meghalaya, under Dhupdhara police station in Goalpara district early in the morning today. The youth was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as two marks of bullet holes on his chest. The body was found lying on a village road with both of his hands were tightened with his own shirt. Top Maoist leader in NIA remand

National Investigation Agency got remand of Maoist leader Indranil Chandra, alias Ajay Das for seven days after he was produced before a special court in Guwahati on Wednesday. Chandra, who heads Maoist offensive in Assam, was brought to Guwahati from Kolkata where he was recently arrested. He was produced in a NIA designated court in Guwahati and remanded to seven days of NIA custody. Chandra, hailing from Burdwan district of West Bengal, had visited the state several times to coordinate with the local Maoist cadres.
