The Cattle camps-- a curse to Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary.

Bura Chapori - an old sandbank turned permanent, faces the mighty river Brahmaputra and like the famous Kaziranga National Park housed mammals, reptiles and birds and plays host to a host of migrants who can feed and move around there.

Bura Chapori Wild Life Sanctuary in Assam, which is 40 kms ahead from Nagaon ,a city of India's North Eastern State Assam. Among all the wild life sanctuaries in Assam, Bura Chapori, facing the mighty river Brahmaputra has the highest cattle camps.Talking to the Ranger of the Forest, Ramen Das informed that the range office is trying their best to make it equivalent to Kaziranga National Park to attract more and more tourist. The beauty of the sanctuary is unique. Some of the major problems facing by the forest authorities to improve the status of the sanctuary. The inhabitants of the forest is one of the greatest problem. The domestic cattle gazes around the forest which consumes the wild grasses. So for this the animals like wild buffaloes (Asiatic)and some birds are suffering from food shortage. The wild fruits are stolen from the forest by the nearby villagers. And this have largely affected the Monkeys & Squirrels.

On the mid forest, there is one big cattle camp. The forest authorities tried a lot to clear the camp from the forest area but they failed to do so.This problem was several times informed to the district administration but nothing steps have been taken so far.

The forest department is in the hope of getting adequate facilities to set up the wild sanctuary to a tourist resort. Will government solve the problem of Bura Chapori?
