Seminar on wildlife crime

Nature's Friends Club, an environmental organization from Dhemaji had organized a seminar on abatement of wildlife crime through community participation at its office premises at Kachari Pathar near Botikur Tiniali (Dhemaji) on 3rd January. The talk was delivered by Ajoy Kr Das, lawyer from Guwahati who is also associated with the legal cell of Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation group of the north east. He spoke elaborately on various crimes related to wildlife and how one can take help of the law to punish the guilty. Moderating the talk Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist appealed to all the environmental organization of the district to work united. Representatives from Megamix Nature Club and Natures Beckon also attended the programme and shared their experiences of working with the environment in the district of Dhemaji. The seminar was attended by teachers, journalists, farmers, entrepreneurs apart from students.

Some memebers of the Natures Friends Club are being disturbed by some people who are directly or indirectly associated with capturing and killing turtles. Most of the members are students in schools and colleges. I would like to request all the nature lovers to support the group so that they can be successful in their mission. I am really impressed by the effort done by Natures Friend Club, Aaranyak, Megamix and Natures Beckon. I am really impressed about Ranjan Kr. Barua, who is a dynamic youth activist, and is able to bring the matter in international , national, and regional forums.I as a nature lover extend heartfelt support for the cause. There is a need of enthuasiastic lawyer like Ajoy Kr. Das who practices beyond court and chamber premises............. Sompa, Nature lover.

A Chinese handgrenade was found lying at the residence of Chingai constituency MLA Khasim Ruiva early morning on Tuesday. The grenade was found by some family members inside the gate of his house located at Nagaram, Imphal East. A Manipur police bomb expert team rushed to the spot to retrieve the grenade and, later disposed it off at a open place at Lamphelpat area in Imphal West at around 11 AM, according to a police source.
At last Bokakhat police stepped in to rein in MLA Jiten Gogoi. Police on Tuesday arrested Gogoi in connection with the case No 64/2011 where he was charged with assaulting a woman and her family members. The women had to lodge a complaint with Bokakhat police who arrested Gogoi. But was released on bail after a few hours. Assam time was first to break the story that police registered against the independent legislator for assaulting a woman. An uneasy situation is prevailing in Ledo following grenade attack at the residence of a local Congress leader. According to information, miscreants hurled a grenade at the residence of Badal Dutta at around 8 in the evening on Sunday. No one has been injured but the building in which Das and his family house has been partially damaged. Top ranked police officials rushed to the spot. But they are clueless about the incident. A 12- year- old boy died when he was knocked down by a truck on Saturday at Thoubal parking, Thoubal district in Manipur, police said on Sunday. The incident took place at around 7: 30 pms last night when Akoijam Sivash (12) was hit by a speeding truck while he along with his two friends were going to attend at a Thabal Chongba programme at Thoubal Okram in the same district.
