Nature's Friends Club, an environmental organization from Dhemaji had organized a seminar on abatement of wildlife crime through community participation at its office premises at Kachari Pathar near Botikur Tiniali (Dhemaji) on 3rd January. The talk was delivered by Ajoy Kr Das, lawyer from Guwahati who is also associated with the legal cell of Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation group of the north east. He spoke elaborately on various crimes related to wildlife and how one can take help of the law to punish the guilty. Moderating the talk Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist appealed to all the environmental organization of the district to work united. Representatives from Megamix Nature Club and Natures Beckon also attended the programme and shared their experiences of working with the environment in the district of Dhemaji. The seminar was attended by teachers, journalists, farmers, entrepreneurs apart from students.

Some memebers of the Natures Friends Club are being disturbed by some people who are directly or indirectly associated with capturing and killing turtles. Most of the members are students in schools and colleges. I would like to request all the nature lovers to support the group so that they can be successful in their mission. I am really impressed by the effort done by Natures Friend Club, Aaranyak, Megamix and Natures Beckon. I am really impressed about Ranjan Kr. Barua, who is a dynamic youth activist, and is able to bring the matter in international , national, and regional forums.I as a nature lover extend heartfelt support for the cause. There is a need of enthuasiastic lawyer like Ajoy Kr. Das who practices beyond court and chamber premises............. Sompa, Nature lover.

Melting Jima Yangzong threatens downstream people

Zima Yangzong glacier the prime source of the Brahmaputra (or Tsangpo) is retreating like some other Himalayan glaciers attributed to the global warming. Assam student killed in Chennai group clash

A student from Assam died at a group clash in Tamil Nadu on Monday. Two groups of students from Assam and Bihar clashed with each other at night near Annamalai University in Chidambaram district. The clash broke out on Monday night where Dharupa Joth Dhatha was killed. The a third-year engineering student died when he was attacked with deadly weapons near the university. ULFA discusses major demands with Centre

A six member delegation of the United Liberation Front of Asom discussed its charter of demands with the Centre in yet another crucial rounds of talks on Tuesday. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urges the Centre to pump in more fund to help its economy improve. Devastating fire in Guwahati

Properties worth ten lakhs have been reduced to ashes when a devastating fire broke out in Guwahati city on Saturday. The incident took place at Solapara area near Paltanbazar police station where seven houses have been ravaged rendering 8 families homeless. The fire broke out immediately after two LPG cylinders exploded in the morning. Fire tenders rushed to the spot but by then the fire engulfed as many as seven houses. 1 missing in Guwahati rain waters; residents stage demo

Local residents in large number staged demonstration in Guwahati on Saturday demanding permanent solution to the artificial floods causing utter chaos in the city on Friday where one person was washed away in the Zoo Road in the afternoon.
