Rare Pangolin Rescued in Geleki, Released in Kamalabari Forest
A rare pangolin was rescued from Murabasti area of Kaliapani in Geleki following prompt action by forest volunteer Niran Gogoi.
Gogoi, known locally as 'Banabandhu' for his conservation efforts, rescued the endangered animal and informed the Geleki Forest Department. With the department’s assistance, the pangolin was later released safely into the Kamalabari forest area.
Pangolins are a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act and are considered one of the most trafficked mammals globally. Forest officials appreciated Gogoi’s quick response and urged locals to report such wildlife sightings immediately to prevent poaching and ensure safe rehabilitation.
