Training on juvenile justice in the city
The Social Welfare Department Assam, in collaboration with UNICEF organised a day-long training programme on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection) Act, 2000 for the police personnel of Kamrup district (rural and urban) recently at Hotel Pragati Manor in Guwahati.
Welcoming the resource persons and the participants, Amlan Barua, Director, Social Welfare Dept. requested the police officials to work jointly offering full cooperation to the stakeholders like District Social Welfare Officers, Probation Officers, Caregivers, Counsellors, Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees constituted by the Government. He also requested all the juvenile police units of the police stations to act promptly if any child up to the age of 18 years is found to be in need of care and protection or found to be in conflict with law.
Anirudh Kulkarni, UNICEF representative for Assam elaborated the role played by UNICEF in strengthening the partnership for effective implementation of the Act and requested the police department to be more active in protecting the right of the child through Juvenile Justice System.
