Pipeline Burst in Sivasagar Exposes ONGC’s Negligence Again
Yet another major accident has occurred in Sivasagar due to ONGC’s negligence and irresponsibility. Around 10 AM today, a crude oil pipeline laid beneath National Highway 37 at Sivasagar’s 1 No. Chaul Khar area burst, spilling crude oil directly onto the highway. The sudden leakage created panic across the area as vehicles were plying on the busy road at that time.
Firefighters and ONGC officials rushed to the spot immediately and managed to stop the leakage. The spilled oil was covered with soil to prevent fire or accidents. Luckily, a major tragedy was averted due to the timely action of locals and the fire service.
Reports suggest that the leaking crude oil pipeline connects the Sivasagar Disangmukh DST to the GGS-3 at Bogidul Meteka, and the pipeline is suspected to be too old, leading to frequent damage. Locals expressed strong resentment, pointing out that this is not an isolated case.
Earlier too, ONGC faced public anger after uncontrolled high-pressure gas leakage at the RDS-147(A) well in Bhotiyapara lasted for 16 days, with no compensation yet to the affected people. Another pipeline burst in the Rudrasagar oilfield damaged houses and fishery ponds. Today’s accident once again raises serious questions about ONGC’s accountability and safety standards in Sivasagar.
