NIELIT Shillong Collaborates with NEHU for IoT Capacity Building Course

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Shillong has partnered with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to offer a course on the Internet of Things (IoT). The course is part of a larger project, "Capacity Building in IECT including Training in Digital Skillsets and current Industry Demanding Technologies for various section of society in the NE States," which is funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The course was inaugurated on February 20, 2023, by Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla and several other dignitaries from NIELIT, NEHU, and industry. Over 120 students from different disciplines have enrolled in the 10-day program, which aims to build capacity and skills in IoT for healthcare, devices, agriculture, communication, and other fields.

The course coordinator, Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, welcomed the guests and highlighted the objectives of the program. Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain discussed the challenges and evolution of IoT technology, while Dr. Y Jayanta Singh stressed the importance of such courses for technical skills and career growth. An industry expert from BASIS Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Sh Anand Raje, explained the industry requirements and future outcomes of IoT technology.

The Vice Chancellor suggested setting up an ideation center in the university to support student brainstorming and implementation of IoT ideas. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from the Centre-in-Charge of NIELIT Shillong, Sri Santanu Borgohain. Overall, the collaboration between NIELIT and NEHU will help enhance capacity building and skill development in the region.

Security forces are fanning in the nook and corner of Williamnagar area in search of the GNLA militants who killed two policemen unleashing reign of terror on Thursday. Trouble brews for a section of officers in the Meghalaya urban development after the Meghalaya High asked CBI to register cases against them for allowing the construction of high rise buildings in Shillong.  A division bench of the Meghalaya High Court comprising Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice SR Sen on Monday directed CBI to institute probe against the officer who cleared permissions for construction of high rise buildings violating the G+3 building by-laws.The court in its order asked the authority to demolish the illegal construction within 15 days with the help of para-military forces.

Amid an escalating counter insurgency offensive,   Meghalaya police claimed to have killed a top GNLA at an encounter in Meghalaya on Sunday.  The gun battle took place at Patalgre village near Williamnagar in East Garo Hills at around 11:20 in the morning in between Patalgre and Dorengkigre village. According to superintendent of police, East Garo Hills, “there was a huge exchange of firing where the militant died on the spot. Suspected militants are believed to have killed an intelligence officer in Meghalaya sending sensation across the north eastern region on Friday.
