Mongolian Heart performed at the Gorkha Docco Music Festival

North Lakhimpur: Silver Jubilee celebrates influential Nepali folk-pop band Mongolian Heart performing on the closing day of the Gorkha Music Festival 2022 at Joyhing Bazar on Sunday in the North Lakhimpur district of upper Assam. Songwriter, composer and lead vocalist of the band Raju Lama enthralled his fans of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for the first time with his band here on Sunday at midnight.

The heart of Mongolian Heart Raju Lama opened with 'Gau ki Kaanchi Ramri... Chaubandi Cholo ma Jhan Ramri' and closed with foot tapping number ' Sayad Timro Bato ma.....'. Fans of all ages enjoyed his ever green romantic number 'Timilai Dekhera....' and 'Parkhai ma Bhijiyo Sirani....'. In his 150 minutes of power packed crowded stage appearance, he also performed Tibetan and Tamang folk and pop music at the request of his fans from Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas. It was Raju Lama's maiden performance in Assam with his band the Mongolian Heart. In October 2016 he performed on the inaugural day of the prestigious 'Tawang Festival' in Tawang Arunachal Pradesh. Raju Lama was recently part of the Coach of Voices of Nepal and TVON Kids singing  reality show.

Speaking to the Assam Times, Raju Lama said: 'Mongolian Heart has received support from Assam since 1992 and we have a huge fan base in North East India and the majority of them are from Assam.  We're glad to have performed here for all our fans and followers who supported us on our 30 year musical journey.'

Raju Lama thanked the organisers of the All Assam Gorkha Tribal Students' Union (AATGSU) and its curator Gopal Tamang Moktan for inviting the band to the festival.

Formed in 1992 the band raised funds to record their first album Soltini in 1994 by playing Deusi/Bhaili besides stage performances at schools and  college functions.  Wherever Raju Lama goes, he is adored. In the late 90s and early 2000s, every nook and corner of Nepali speaking community would be playing his songs. His fans would throng the concerts where he and his band, The Mongolian Heart, played. In their 30 years on the musical journey, they have performed across the globe and bagged several national and international recognitions and awards.

Speaking on the band's first visit to Assam, band manager and guitarist Bobby Lama said: 'One thing the band will remember forever is that fans travelled 300-500 kms for their favourite band performance and waited in a queue at the hotel and venue to meet and shower their love and express continued support for our musical journey.'

'This rarely happens, which is why Mongolian Hearts is still active for fans like the ones in Assam and North East India whom we didn't even meet and perform in their place. Thankfully the Gorkha Docco Music Festival turned out to be an opportunity to thank and acknowledge our fans here.'

Mongolian Heart thoroughly enjoyed ethnic tribal cuisines and several souvenirs presented by fans. On behalf of the Gorkha youths of India, Nanda Kirati Dewan welcomed Raju Lama with hand woven  Mishing tribal shawl along with band manager Boby Lama while  National co-convenor of Bhartiya Gorkha Sanskritik Parisangh cultural wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) Prakash Rai presented Raju Lama and the Mongolian Heart band with  and garden fresh Assam Tea and Gorkhali khada.

On Saturday night rapper Lawrey (Ankit Rana) and Yakthung folk modern singer youth sensation Ekdev Limbu performed alongside opportunities for native artists.
