Assam Sahitya Sabha celebrates 'Mother Tongue Day' in Mangaldai

October 6, the day of the death of Mozammil Haque, the first martyr of the 1972 language movement, was celebrated in Mangaldai as a ʼMother Tongue Dayʼ by the Assam Sahitya Sabha.

Darang District Sahitya Sabha and Shaheed Mozammil Haque Memorial Smriti organised a programme at the Youth Club near Shaheed Mozammil Haque's memorial located on the banks of Bega River.

The Asom Sahitya Sabha flag was hoisted at 8.55 am by Darang Zilla Sahitya Sabha president Shailen Kumar Rajvanshi. The Shaheed Mozammil Haque Memorial Committee flag was then hoisted by the memorial committee president Mukul Chandra Deka. Former Vice President Assam Sahitya Sabha Prof. Idrees Ali inaugurated  the event. The programme was presided over by Secretary, Vice President and former In-charge of Assam Sahitya Sabha Padma Shri Prahlad Tasha.

Tezpur Central University Professor Dr Chandan Kumar Sharma unveiled the commemorative booklet at the meeting which was attended as the Chief Guest by Assam Sahitya Sabha Vice President Mrinalini Devi.

The programme was also attended by author and thinker Mayur Bora, former Assam Sahitya Sabha president and Sipajhar MLA Dr Parmananda Rajbanshi,  Mangaldai MLA Vasant Das and Kalaigaon MLA Durgadas Boro as guests of honour.
