Inferno guts six houses

TANGLA: A  devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.

Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of  six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs  to the ground  within minutes.

The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

"We lost all our belongings including educational certificates of my daughter"said Sankar Basfor.

According to sources, properties worth around thirty lakhs was destroyed in the fire.

"The fire tenders from Tangla and Khoirabari doused the fire within minutes or else the devastation would have been massive."said Vice Chairman of Tangla Municipal Board,Sankar Sarkar . Tangla Municipal Board also distributed ration and clothes to the victim families. Paneri MLA ,Kamali Basumatari also visited the families and assured of financial assistance.

However no was  injured in the incident.

Netra Prasad Sarmah a state Award winner in the agricultural sector laid the foundation stone of a road under the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Concrete Road Scheme here in the presence of Local MLA Rihon Daimari on Tuesday last.The MLA said that a package for the roads in Udalguri town had already been submitted to NYC chief and he hoped that all the lanes and bylanes along with the drains in the town would be completed soon.
A herd of 4 to 5 wild elephants damaged railway quarter walls and created a havoc in the entire  Pujakhola Tiniali area in  Tangla on Saturdy at about 1.55 am. The elephants also damaged sugarcane crops in nearby area. No loss of life have been reported.  
With the rest of the state people at Tangla has geared up including the 61th edition of Raas festival on the premises of Raas field at Tangla Kukurakata. Tangla Nonaipara Sarvajanik Raas Puja Committee is the oldest in the town established in 1954 has taken the initiative.The whole area has been erected up with electrified gates with sophisticated devices. The Mahotsav started on November 24 which will last for seven days.Various religious and cultural programme will be organized during these days. Meanwhile police and paramilitary jawans have been deployed.
The 547th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated in Tangla along with the rest of India on Wednesday. Special preparations were made for the day in the local gurdwara to celebrate the birth anniversary of the first guru of the Sikh religion, which falls on the day of Kartik Purnima every year. In Tangla the followers of the religion made a beeline to the gurdwaras since morning and took part in langar (community lunch), a tradition started by Guru Nanak to encourage brotherhood and fellow feeling among all sections, irrespective of caste and creed.
Rakesh Roushan, lPS took charge as Superintendent of Police Udalguri on Monday. He has taken over charge from Bir Bikram Gogoi. Earlier he served as Superintendent of Police  (Operation), Sonitpur, and SDPO Rangia, Kamrup.
A man's body was found hanging from the Nonai River Railway Bridge near Amtola chowk. Commuters noticed the body on the track around 5.30 am today, and informed police. The man's face bore injury marks. Though prima facie it appears to be a suicide, but post mortem would determine the man's exact cause and manner of death. The identity of the person has not been ascertained. In another road accident last night at about 10.30 pm a staff of Tangla Civil Hospital, Dinesh Rabha died after his bike collided with a iron post near the SSB camp, Tangla. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to injuries.
The Tangla Block Congress Committee had a general meeting of its worker on Sunday at its office at Amtola chowk. The meeting was attended Rajya Sabha MP Santius Kujur,  former minister of state Kaman Singh Brahma; former MP Madhab Rajbongshi, congress leader Mridula Saharia were present in the meeting. Speaking on the ocassion Santius Kujur said that people have lost their faith in saffron party which was reflected in the Bihar election. He said in the coming Assembly election Congress will form the government, and the 4 Assembly seats of the Udalguri district would be occupied by Congress.
While riding her scooty, a women lost control and crashed into a jewelery showroom at Tangla Charali police point on Sunday. The showroom located just near the police point was smashed and by injured one staff. Police rushed to the spot, took the staff and the woman to hospital. The woman received stiches in her knees. Police registered a case in this regard.
As part of Swach Bharat Abhiyan, sanitation wing of Tangla Town Commitee today organised cleanliness drive in the town. Several areas of the town have been cleaned of garbage, horticulture waste and debris. The cleanliness drive was joined by local people suppoted by members of Akhil Hindi Bhashi Bikas Parishad, students of Dr. BR Ambedkar Hindi Medium school along with the sanitary workers of the town committee. Students were seen holding playcards like 'God gave us green let us keep it clean', Use Dustbin and Live Green etc.
