Inferno guts six houses

TANGLA: A  devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.

Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of  six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs  to the ground  within minutes.

The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

"We lost all our belongings including educational certificates of my daughter"said Sankar Basfor.

According to sources, properties worth around thirty lakhs was destroyed in the fire.

"The fire tenders from Tangla and Khoirabari doused the fire within minutes or else the devastation would have been massive."said Vice Chairman of Tangla Municipal Board,Sankar Sarkar . Tangla Municipal Board also distributed ration and clothes to the victim families. Paneri MLA ,Kamali Basumatari also visited the families and assured of financial assistance.

However no was  injured in the incident.

The IQAC cell of Tangla College headed by its co-ordinator Satyen Sarma had introduced a three months "Functional Knowledge Certificate Course" on Spoken English , Internet Correspondence, Personality Development for 6th semester students of Tangla College. The inauguration ceremony of the same was held on February 18 at the college conference hall. Speaking on the ocassion Rajen Kalita former HOD Department of English mentioned the importance of English language in today's age of globalization. The members of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathon (AIMSS) Udalguri district committee took to streets today in protest of the attrocities on women and children. Womens holding playcards that read 'Stop Child rape' ,Stop communal hatred thronged the town. Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Tangla and it's neighbouring places. Students rushed schools and colleges to offer their prayers and seek divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Educational institutions were also seen distributing prasads to the students. People of all age groups irrespective of religion, caste, creed thronged the puja Mandaps. Young generation were gripped in the festive spirit and loitered along the streets.

The students of Tangla College boycotted the classes on Friday accusing the Principal Dr. Prasen Daimari of man handling the Assistant General Secretary Pankaj Dkhar on Feb 9.
