First COVID 19 case rattles state

Silchar: Finally,  the state confirmed it's first COVID19 patient with a travel history to Delhi where the cancer patient attended a religious function at Nizamuddin recently.

The 55 year old patient from Karimganj was undergoing treatment of cancer at the Silchar Medical College for the last couple of days.

Doctors attending on him advised quarantine treatment which he defied and kept moving in Mehekpur area in the Barakvalley town. 

After preliminary confirmation, the sample was sent to Pune for laboratory confirmation which suggested it a COVID 19 positive case.

The authorities have been investigating and scrutinizing his profile. He confessed his participation in the religious function in Nizamuddin along with 400 others from the state.

"Treatment is in progress and the police investigation is also going on to trace out his fellows," said the SMCH authorities.

With this the north eastern region had 3 COVID 19 cases--two others being in Manipur and Mizoram who are said to have been gradually recovering.

Eight Muslim Protection Tiger Force surrendered before police in Kokrajhar district. One person was shot dead by his elder brother in Guwahati on Sunday. The fratricidal incident took place at Adabari area in the city over dispute over a piece of land.According to police, accused Sahil Ali attacked his elder brother Siraj Ali in front of his shop and shot dead him at around 8.20 am at Adabari area. Siraj was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The Assam Government on Friday approached the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe into the huge seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes in Guwahati from three accused persons on August 30 last year.According to government sources, the three accused who were on their way from Malda in West Bengal through Guwahati in a Chevrolet Tavera were rounded up by officials from DRI, Guwahati at Beltola Chariali. Fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 11.99 lakh were found in their possession.
