Award winning film maker Jahnu Barua lambasts the government in Delhi on the imposition of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Barua has issued a statement on social media appealing peaceful protest.
Statement from Jahnu Barua, filmmaker:
"With the capacity of their power alone, Delhi has today disrobed the motherland of the people of Assam and the North East. In this attempt to annihilate us, our traitorous leaders have sold their souls to join hands with Delhi. My appeal to each individual in Assam and the North East - let us keep up the fight. In the same way that we were victorious in the past, we must win in this one too. My friends, please keep in mind that our movement is completely peaceful and non-violent. Please never resort to violence of any kind. No government or non- governmental property should be harmed. We must continue our struggle in a non- violent manner. In our democratic nation, we must win through democratic means. This fight to protect our indigenous identity and rights is going to be a long one. Please exercise patience and self-control as we determine our path towards victory."
