A representative of the United States House of Representatives, Debra Anne Haaland issues statement in social media showing concern on police crack down on protesters of the on going protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
"I’m deeply concerned about Indian Prime Minister Modi's Citizenship Amendment Act which discriminates against religious minorities" Haaland wrote in her Facebook and Twitter timeline.
Haaland has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene to rescind the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, which according to her "Indian Muslims are being targeted based on how they worship. I urge PM Modi to rescind this law immediately."
Haaland is a U.S. Representative from New Mexico's 1st congressional district.
Haaland posted her reaction based on a story published in the Loas Angeles Times titled "For Muslims in India, ‘entire neighborhoods have gone empty in fear’.
