Unsung Heroes from northeats awarded

The 1st Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards 2019 held in Mumbai in the presence of Honourable Governor of Maharashtra Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Friday, November 15th, 2019. All respected resident commissioners of Northeast house also graced the event.

The award show started with lamp litting ceremony done by honourable Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Sunil Ambekar, Nation Organising Secretary, ABVP, Ashish Kumar Chauhan, CEO & MD, BSE, Ashish Chauhan, General Secretary, ABVP, Atul Kulkarni, Chairman, SEIL, B.K. Dey, Retd DCP, Meghalaya Police, Founder, Rebecca and Co-Organiser, Jutikaa Mahanta followed by the felicitation of the chief guest by the organising committee.

Founder, Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards, Rebecca Changkija Sema says, “On behalf of my entire team, I would like to thank everyone for pouring so much love. People think that since I am from Northeast India so people won’t take me seriously but let me tell you that I have got so much love in Maharashtra. We have 65 nominations among 5 categories from different walks of life and it has been a tough time for the jury to choose the awardees.”

Co-organiser, Jutikaa Mahanta says, “This is a great initiative towards the national integration. It is our duty to so something substantial for our community back in Northeast.”

The event is presented by Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in association with UFO. This initiative is supported by Mumbai Dabbawala Association, Mumbai University and IIM Shillong. Founded by Find Studioz, the associate partner of the event is SEIL (Students Inter State Living Experience) and the Chairman Atul Kulkarni is also the part of organising team.

Earlier, celebs like Mahima Chaudhary, Zeenat Aman have supported the initiative in Nagaland and Sikkim.

Co-Organizer for the grand event are Shiraz Henry,  Sujata Pradhan, Pavi shakya , Ashibo Chishi swu and Ankita Tiwari.

Arunachalese to seek Chinese help!

An influential student body in Arunachal Pradesh threatened to take the resort of China in protest against the Supreme Court’s recent judgment for citizenship to the Chakma-Hajong refugees.  Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday, AAPSU leader Gumjum Haider said that they would have no option but to take help of foreign country for intervention at a time when China has been claiming the north eastern state.The apex court last month asked the government to grant citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees who had been rehabilitated in the state in 1964-69 after they fled their homes in Bangladesh.

Arunachal students hits Delhi streets

Students from Arunachal Pradesh hit the streets the New Delhi on Friday in protest against the Supreme Court's judgment granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees from Bangladesh living in the north eastern state.Holding placards in their hands, hundreds joined the protest organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union while some others shouting slogans not to make the state a dumping ground of refugees.Protesters told Assam Times that they have been tolerating injustice for years. “China repeatedly claims Arunachal Pradesh. The Centre’s defence is not strong. We are upholding patriotism. Now we don’t know what would be our next course of action,” said a protestor.

Centre considers Upper House move

Pushpa Bhuyan passes away

Noted Satriya dance performer Pushpa Bhuyan passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. She was 78. The end for the Padmashsree awardee came at 5-30 in the evening at a local hospital in Vasantkunj area where she was  undergoing treatment for the last couple of days.Many organizations and individuals have condoled her death and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family. Many people from the north east thronged her residence in the capital as soon as the message of her death spread like wildfire in the evening. NE governors discuss act east policy

The north east governors are holding a conference in New Delhi to finalize the Act East policy. Assam and Nagaland governor PB Acharya aso also attending the conference organized by the ministry of external affairs. Minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj opened the conference where she stressed better diplomatic relations with the neighbours.JP Rajkhowa attedned the conference along with other north eastern governors. In his speech DoNER minister Jitendra Singh stressed proper utilization of the central funds in the entire region.  

NE cell formation in process

The Delhi government is preparing to set up the North East Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in the national capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal discussed it with Assam and Nagaland Governor P B Acharya in New Delhi on Tuesday. The membership issue was figured in the discussion at the Nagaland House. Kejriwal announced the North East India Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in August to handle issues confronting the people from the north eastern region. 

NRC: SC rejects AASU plea

The Supreme Court has rejected a plea for Central observers to monitor the verification process of NRC application. A division bench of the Court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohington Fali Nariman rejected the plea by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and authorised NRC nodal officer Prateek Hajela to use the gazetted officials in the process if need be. The court, however, asked Hajela to submit a report on the work completed so far covering the verification of application forms, aims and objectives, field verification reports.

NRC: SC extends date till Mar

The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the date for publication of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) by March 1 next year. A division bench of the court consisting of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and R F Nariman further asked coordinator Prateek Hajela to file a status report on November 11. The bench had decided to continue monitoring the implementation of its directions.
