Sri Guru Nanak Dev celebrated with religious fervour
UDALGURI,November 12: Along with the rest of the state Guru Nanak Jayanti was also celebrated with religious fervour here at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Guruduwara,Tangla in Udalguri district on Tuesday .
Devotees from entire Darrang and Udalguri district including Border Security Force,Army jawans from various parts Darrang and Udalguri gathered to mark the celebration of the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith.The celebrations kick-started with a recitation of the Sikh religious book, the Guru Granth Sahib. .
After completing the recitation of the Granth kirtan hymns were chanted .The prayers were led by granthi, Harpreet Singh.
Nishan Sahib a Sikh triangular flag made of silk cloth, with a tassel at its end was also hoisted by the devotees. The ceremony was followed by special prayers for the country’s uplift, promoting unity and protecting the people.In the langar special delicacies prepared in the community kitchen were served were people irrespective of their caste, community,religion feasted together ,” said Jarnail Singh Pradhan of the Guruduwara.
In the evening 550 earthen lamps were also lightned along with cracking of fireworks. The Sikh fraternity of Darrang and Udalguri also hailed the good will initiative of India and Pakistan for facilitating the visit of Indian Sikh pilgrims to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, also called Kartarpur Sahib, in Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention that Guruduwara Singh Sabha established way back in 1957 is the only Sikh temple in Darrang and Udalguri district.

The inauguration ceremony of the same was held on February 18 at the college conference hall. Speaking on the ocassion Rajen Kalita former HOD Department of English mentioned the importance of English language in today's age of globalization. The members of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathon (AIMSS) Udalguri district committee took to streets today in protest of the attrocities on women and children. Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Tangla and it's neighbouring places. Students rushed schools and colleges to offer their prayers and seek divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Educational institutions were also seen distributing prasads to the students. People of all age groups irrespective of religion, caste, creed thronged the puja Mandaps. Young generation were gripped in the festive spirit and loitered along the streets.
