7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 Begins

The 7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 has commenced from Thursday at Pragjyoti ITA Centre in Guwahati.

Renowned film personalities and stalwarts such as Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Karan Oberoi, and many others will take part in the four-day festival. The schedule includes film screenings, interactive sessions, panel discussions, film quiz and much more.

The Festival Director, Tanushree Hazarika delivered the welcome address. Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Pratim D. Gupta, Shiladitya Bora and Nicholas Kharkongor addressed the opening day press conference. While Imtiaz mentioned that the simplicity and the innocence of the people of Assam is so heartening and welcoming, that it makes him want to visit the place again and again, Shobita looks forward to be a part of a film that would be screened at the festival in the future. Paoli mentioned that she was really was grateful that she could be a part of this festival.

An opening ceremony with M Choir from Mizoram performing, took place with the special guests of the festival being felicitated. ‘Shantilal O Projapoti Rohosyo’ directed by Pratim D. Gupta was the opening film.

The movie starring Ritwick Chakraborty & Paoli Dam is about a deadbeat weather reporter & a glamorous and ambitious movie star. When their worlds collide, it turns into a rollercoaster adventure ride from Kolkata to Chennai to Singapore. By the end, a new detective is born.

A short film ‘Aapke Aa Jaane Se’ directed by Shiladitya Bora was also screened beforehand.

Over the four days of the festival, acclaimed films such Daughters of the Polo God, Strawberry Point, Widow of Silence, The Least of These: The Graham Staines Story , Picasso, Jacqueline I Am Coming, Nana: A Tale of Us will be screened.

T for Tajmahal by Kireet Khurana will be the closing film of the festival.

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces have recovered large number cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives inside Manas National Park (MNP) under Gavarukundha range near Panbari under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Tuesday morning. Lower Assam Commissioner SS Meenakshi Sundaram has started investigation into the alleged scuffle between Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh And EAC Sailen Das recently at Gaurang Valley Hotel Kokrajhar. KOKRAJHAR: A new political outfit was floated in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) at a convention held at Pathshala in Baksa district on Sunday. The newly floated political party has been named as Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) headed by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania. The party has appointed ten executive members. In the meeting, BTAD army was also formed to work to the extensive services amongst all sections of the society. Kokrajhar: The 22nd edition of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 began here at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. 10 teams from the state and West Bengal are participating in the competition. KOKRAJHAR,SEP 21: "United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is fully prepared to contest the upcoming BTC general council election to be held next year. There is no word of unification with ruling BPF", said UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma. KOKRAJHAR: In a heart touching incident, Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh physical assaulted  EAC Sailen Das at a gettogeter inside a hotel in Kokrajhar as video of CCTV footages state. The incident has come into light after a video became viral on social media on Friday. According to sources, there was a get together organised by district administration at Hotel Gaurang Valley on September 9 where the incident took place.  Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordered an official inquiry into the incident. RTI activist Dural Bora also filed a compalint in this regard with CID Assam on Saturday.  
KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) expelled of Rinjoy Boro from central committee for his anti organizational activities. In a press statement, assistant general secretary of the students union, Khwrwmdao Wary said the student's union after the cabinet meeting held on Friday has decided to take disciplinary action against Rinjoy Boro, who was one of the central committee ABSU, Secretary. KOKRAJHAR: BTC executive member Shyam Sundi inaugurated the extended campus of School of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Titaguri in Kokrajhar district, on Thursday. 66 trainees, who are selected as veterinary field assistant (VFA) under veterinary and animal husbandry department are taking training in the school. KOKRAJHAR: Police apprehended three persons including a government employee involved with cheating related cases from Kokrajhar town on Thursday. According to Police, Kokrajhar and Guwahati police have jointly carried out a search operation and apprehended the trio. They have been identified as Alok Sen (49) of Prince Golam Hossain Shah Road, Kolkata, Pradip Kalita (42) of Jamalpur of Kamrup rural and Manoj Kumar Deka (75) of Geetanagar, Guwahati. Kalita is a fourth grade government employee in PHE department.
