Inter College Youth Festival Kicks off at GU

Gauhati University Inter College Youth Festival, 2019 kicked off at G.U. premises on 1st September with a 4 day long programme.

The festival is being organised by Post Graduate Students’ Union under GU Sports’ Board. 

The youth festival at GU is centrally organised after Zonal Festivals are held at four different zones. This year around 700 participants from 63 different colleges are participating in the festival after being selected at the zonal level. 

In the inaugural programme, Chief Guest  Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice Chancellor, G.U. hoisted the GU flag. Prof. Handique wished all the participants good luck and said that along with academics co-curricular activities are equally important for overall growth of the students.

Attending the programme Lurinjyoti Gogoi, General Secretary, AASU in his speech said that GU Inter College Youth Festival is a noble platform where students can showcase their talents and from time to time they have showcased their talents in national and international arena.

Dipankar Nath, President, AASU inaugurated the cultural procession and praised the students for the vibrant cultural rally showcasing the cultural traditions of Assam.

Attending the programme Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare, G.U. and Secretary GU Sports Board welcomed all the participants and team managers.

Dr. Kakati said that the festival is being conducted with all the conditions in mind and utmost care will be taken so that the event meets best possible professional standards.

The programme was attended by Secretary, University Classes, G.U., Dr. H.K. Nath  & PGSU President, Luckymoni Boruah, General Secretary Nayan Jyoti Gogoi along with a host of other dignitaries.

Son hacks father to death in Udalguri

UDALGURI: A 30-year-old man allegedly hacked his father to death at their house in Barangabari near Dimakuchi in Udalguri district on Saturday night over a trivial dispute. The family members informed the police and handed over the accused.Reportedly, a heated argument ensued  between the deceased Byartha Kujur and accused Santosh Kujur. AAMSU voices over NRC move

UDALGURI:The All Assam Minority Students' Union(AAMSU) staged a two-hour sit-in-demonstration in front of DC office in Udalguri on Thursday.The programme was held under the aegis Udalguri district committee of the student body strongly voiced against the purported suggestion by National Register of Citizens (NRC) state coordinator,Prateek Hajela to the Supreme Court to exclude five out of the 15 documents from NRC modalities. Udalguri Election Officer resigns over cash-for-job scam

UDALGURI: Udalguri Election Officer Karpun Patir has resigned from the post over cash-for-job scam. The scam came to light after the Dibrugarh police arrested one Naba Kanta Patir, an engineer, from Dibrugarh after they caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a lady doctor promising a government job on October 27, 2016.  Karpun Patir is the son of former Congress Minister Sumitra Patir. 37 Bn SSB apprehends 2,seizes Illegal forest products

UDALGURI: The troops of 37th Bn, SSB, Mangaldoi, stationed at Border outpost,Bangrum thwarted a major attempt of timber smuggling. The troops seized one Tata Pickup van near Barmakhuli Bridge along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri on Thursday morning.A consignment of fifty number of wooden Planks were recovered from the vehicle. The troops also apprehended two timber smugglers in this connection who have been identified as Santosh Basumatary (27) and Pradeep Daimari (40)both hailing from Hagramari village under Harisinga P.S in Udalguri. The seized items were later handed over to Forest Office Nonaikhuti, Udalguri for further legal action.
