World Environment Day was observed by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council Assam in its office premises at Bamunimaidam, Guwahati on Wednesday.
A seminar on 'Conservation of Water' was held to mark the occasion. Secretary, AHSEC, Kamal Jyoti Gogoi moderated the proceedings.
Advisors to AHSEC Satyen Gogoi (rtd IGP Assam), Dr Dipankar Chakravarty, Controller of Examinations Pankaj Borthakur also spoke on the occasion.
Environment journalist and conservationist Mubina Akhtar highlighted the threats posed by climate change and various other anthropogenic factors that has led to severe water crisis with reference to the Brahmaputra Valley.
She appealed the AHSEC for more student- teacher interactions on conservation issues in the schools as well awareness pogrammes for both the student and teaching community at regular intervals.
Another resource person Dr Dipankar Chakravorty highlighted positive impacts of rain harvesting and stressed on the need for rain harvesting in school premises.
