Salesian College retains ‘A’ Grade in NAAC 3rd Cycle

Darjeeling — The first college in the Darjeeling hills to under take National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has retained its ‘A’ Grade in the 3rd Cycle concluded on 3rd and 4th May 2019.

Announcing the result of the NAAC Peer Team Visit on 20 May 2019, the Director of Bangalore-based NAAC Dr. S.C. Sharma wrote, “I am glad to inform you that the outcome of the Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) exercise of your institution has been processed and approved by the [40th] Standing Committee constituted by the Executive Committee to examine the peer team reports and declare the accreditation results.”

Dr Sharma continued, “Your institution has been Accredited with a CGPA of 3.04 [out of 4] on a seven point scale at A Grade valid for a period of 5 years from 20 - 05 - 2019.”

Commenting on the result Principal Dr. (Fr.) George Thadathil who was instrumental in all three NAAC exercises of the college said, “It is a great achievement and matter of pride that even with stringent online Data Validation and Verification we retained our ‘A’ grade.”

On hearing of the NAAC result, President of the Governing Board of the College Dr (Fr.) Nirmol Gomes wrote to IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) Core Team WhatsApp group saying, “Congratulations to you and the whole Salesian Team and All the collaborators of the college who spared no effort to achieve this. I am in deed proud of you all.”

“We deserved an ‘A+’ grade ,” said IQAC Coordinator of Sonada campus Dr Terrence Mukhia with a note of disappointment. Most senior member of the faculty, Dr Mukhia and Principal Dr Thadathil were part of all three NAAC exercises.

The Assessment Outcome Document (AOD) is available on the NAAC portal.

NAAC director Dr Sharma concluded his letter saying, “I am sure that the detailed peer team report handed over to you during the exit meeting along with the AOD will enable the institution to initiate further quality enhancement measures.”

Salesian College established in 1938 as a residential college at Gorabari village, just two kilometers from Sonada town is midway between Kurseong and Darjeeling. Situated on NH 55 (Hill Cart Road) at an altitude of 6,500 feet above sea level, college was opened to the public in 2000 and a bigger campus was started in the plains in Siliguri in 2009.
