Wild jumbo tramples 1 to death

In yet another tragic incident, a youth was trampled to death by a loner wild jumbo in Paneri Tea Estate in Udalguri at about 10 pm on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Jaichan Kujur (25). Locals told that Kujur was confronted by the loner while he was on his way back home.

It is pertinent here to mention that the man-elephant conflict has taken an ugly turn along the Indo-Bhutan border villages in Udalguri district claiming as 7 human lives and 8 elephant in 2017-18.

The man-elephant conflict has taken worst turn in Indo-Bhutan area of Udalguri district. The Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Khalingduar forest and Nonai Reserve forest has been deforested by cutting of trees by a section of wood cutters and corrupt forest officials. The villagers of Gohaikhat in the outskirts of Tangla has built a Mejhi Ghar in the form of a Titanic ship. The 26 ft long mejhi ghar has been built with the help of near about 70 bamboos by the villagers. Two persons were killed and eight others sustained serious injury in a tragic road mishap in MB Road Tangla on Saturday. The accident took place at 7 in the morning when the Tata DI (AS-13C 3353) carrying bazaar merchants  hit a tree in Meskha Pukhuri area under Kalaigaon PS on the way to Puthimari weekly market.
