Salamira toll still on the rise
The toll in the Salmira Tea Estate tragedy in Golaghat district has gone up to 25 with the reports of more deaths after consuming illicit tragedy on Thursday even as the opposition Congress has sharpened attack on the excise minister Parimal Sukhlavaidya alleging lack of attention.
The deceased include 16 women who consumed spurious liquor at a household to be sold in the afternoon. An worried Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked excise minister and local MLA Mrinal Saikia to go to the spot where local residents blamed the administration for failing to act upon these trade.
Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has demanded resignation of excise minister alleging his failure and lackadaisical attitude while local MLA Saikia blamed the district administration.
In yet another development the local angry local residents mercilessly beat up a social worker Prabin Gogoi as the anti liquor activist was on a visit to the spot.
