AASAA demands ST(A) status for Adivasis

The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) Stephen Lakra faction has demanded earlu granting of ST status and ST-A (Aboriginal) status to the Adivasis. AASAA has alleged that BJP has failed to fulfil hopes and aspiration of the Adivasi community who had put promises during the 2014 Lok Sabha and 2016 state elections.

President of the AASAA Stephen Lakra while addressing the Press Conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club on Saturday, expressed his unhappy over the formation of group of ministers, headed by Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to monitor the issues of ST status granting to the six communities. He alleged that BJP party  has failed to fulfil hopes and aspiration who had put promised during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He has demanded early of granting ST status to the Adivasis in the state of Assam through the ensuing Parliament session beginning from last part of January.

Regarding the reported ST (O),Lakra said that Adivasis are not accepting ST (O) which is not acceptable. The Adivasis wants ST(A-Aboriginal) status to meet dignity and integrity of the Adivasis.

He has urged the government to take bold initiative to grant ST status to the Adivasis.

KOKRAJHAR: A tuition master has been arrested for allegedly molestating of minor girl in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening. According to family, a 9-year-old girl went for tuition class at the nearby house under the Ward no.2 along with her classmates in the morning around at 8 am. According to local peoples, a 12-year-old young boy child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Bishnupur along the India-Bhutan border area under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Friday morning. Five persons were arrested by te police for illegally carrying cattles in five trucks on Thursday morning at Karigaon national highways in Kokrajhar district. Police intercepted the trucks carrying 80 cattles, including 14 buffaloes during the petrolling in the 31C National Highways. The trucks were bound for Nine Mile, Guwahati from Pandipara and Sonapur of West Bengal. The cattles were purchased by Pioneer Livestocks. KOKRAJHAR: Security forces have recovered large number cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives inside Manas National Park (MNP) under Gavarukundha range near Panbari under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Tuesday morning. KOKRAJHAR: A new political outfit was floated in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) at a convention held at Pathshala in Baksa district on Sunday. The newly floated political party has been named as Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) headed by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania. The party has appointed ten executive members. In the meeting, BTAD army was also formed to work to the extensive services amongst all sections of the society. Sarania said that the newly floated political party will work for all round development of the region. He said that the party is planning to put candidature in all 35 seats in the upcoming BTC elections next year.
Kokrajhar: The 22nd edition of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 began here at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. 10 teams from the state and West Bengal are participating in the competition.
