Protest in Margherita

Activists of Margherita Regional Student Union staged dharna and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday in front of the residence of Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma. The protesters shouted various slogans against Modi, Sonowal and Sharma for the controversial Citizenship Amendment (2016) Bill.

During the bandh on Tuesday called by AASU along with several other organisation, Margherita remained closed.

Promising pugilists require support

Financial support is required for two pugilists to strike gold in the 2020 Olympic. Both the promising pugilists are born and brought up in Margherita. Quarrel over a chair; leader suspended

The Margherita unit of BJP has suspended its president Bhim Karmakar for 5 days in connection with the recent acrimonious situation at a party function in Tinsukia.Party insiders told Assam Times that Karmakar was allegedly involved in the scuffle that took place at the function attended by Siddhartha Bhattacharya where the party workers tried to be flanked by the State president on November 16.

Bandh cripples Margherita

Normal life remains paralyzed on Friday in Tinsukia district following a 24 hour bandh called by the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad in protest against the assault on one of their leader.Roads in most parts of the district remained completely deserted as vehicles refused to ply during this period. Shops and markets, schools and colleagues, banks and offices remained closed under impact of the bandh.CRPF jawans on Thursday assaulted Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad’s Digboi branch president Prashanta Buragohain at Digboi bereft of any reason. 

Margherita police under scanner

The functionings of Margherita police seem to have raised doubts among a section of the people these days.The release of an accused in a diesel theft case creates no less anger among the local residents. According to allegation, the police have released Narayan Adhikary even after he was detained acting on the complaint of diesel theft from the residence of Sambhu Singh in the Segunbari area.It is alleged that police spared Adhikari only because of his comfortable relations with a circle of senior policemen apart from a few district administration officials.
